We have heard, O God, with our ears: our fathers have declared to us, The work thou hast wrought in their days, and in the days of old.

tu manu tua gentes delisti et plantasti eos adflixisti populos et emisisti eos
manus tua gentes disperdit et plantasti eos adflixisti populos et expulisti eos
Thy hand destroyed the Gentiles, and thou plantedst them: thou didst afflict the people and cast them out.

non enim in gladio suo possederunt terram neque brachium eorum salvavit eos sed dextera tua et brachium tuum et lux vultus tui quia conplacuisti tibi
nec enim in gladio suo possederunt terram et brachium eorum non salvavit eos sed dextera tua et brachium tuum et inluminatio faciei tuae quoniam conplacuisti in eis
For they got not the possession of the land by their own sword: neither did their own arm save them. But thy right hand and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance: because thou wast pleased with them.

tu es rex meus Deus praecipe pro salutibus Iacob
tu es ipse rex meus et Deus meus qui mandas salutes Iacob
Thou art thyself my king and my God, who commandest the saving of Jacob.

in te hostes nostros ventilabimus in nomine tuo conculcabimus adversarios nostros
in te inimicos nostros ventilabimus cornu et in nomine tuo spernemus insurgentes in nobis
Through thee we will push down our enemies with the horn: and through thy name we will despise them that rise up against us.

non enim in arcu meo confidam neque gladius meus salvabit me
non enim in arcu meo sperabo et gladius meus non salvabit me
For I will not trust in my bow: neither shall my sword save me.
|

quia salvasti nos de hostibus nostris et eos qui oderant nos confudisti
salvasti enim nos de adfligentibus nos et odientes nos confudisti
But thou hast saved us from them that afflict us: and hast put them to shame that hate us.
|

in Domino gaudebimus tota die et in nomine tuo in aeternum confitebimur semper
in Deo laudabimur tota die et in nomine tuo confitebimur in saeculum diapsalma
In God shall we glory all the day long: and in thy name we will give praise for ever.

verum tu proiecisti et confudisti nos et non egredieris in exercitibus nostris
nunc autem reppulisti et confudisti nos et non egredieris in virtutibus nostris
But now thou hast cast us off, and put us to shame: and thou , O God, wilt not go out with our armies.

vertisti terga nostra hosti et qui oderant nos diripuerunt nos
avertisti nos retrorsum post inimicos nostros et qui oderunt nos diripiebant sibi
Thou hast made us turn our back to our enemies: and they that hated us plundered for themselves.
|
| 12 |
dedisti nos quasi gregem ad vorandum et in gentibus dispersisti nos
dedisti nos tamquam oves escarum et in gentibus dispersisti nos
Thou hast given us up like sheep to be eaten: thou hast scattered us among the nations.
|
| 13 |
vendidisti populum tuum sine pretio nec grandis fuit commutatio eorum
vendidisti populum tuum sine pretio et non fuit multitudo in commutationibus nostris
Thou hast sold thy people for no price: and there was no reckoning in the exchange of them.
|
| 14 |
posuisti nos obprobrium vicinis nostris subsannationem et inrisum his qui erant in circuitu nostro
posuisti nos obprobrium vicinis nostris subsannationem et derisum his qui in circuitu nostro
Thou hast made us a reproach to our neighbours, a scoff and derision to them that are round about us.

posuisti nos similitudinem in gentibus commotionem capitis in tribubus
posuisti nos in similitudinem gentibus commotionem capitis in populis
Thou hast made us a byword among the Gentiles: a shaking of the head among the people.

tota die confusio mea contra me et ignominia faciei meae cooperuit me
tota die verecundia mea contra me est et confusio faciei meae cooperuit me
All the day long my shame is before me: and the confusion of my face hath covered me,
|
| 17 |
a voce exprobrantis et blasphemantis a facie inimici et ultoris
a voce exprobrantis et obloquentis a facie inimici et persequentis
At the voice of him that reproacheth and detracteth me: at the face of the enemy and persecutor.
|
| 18 |
omnia haec venerunt super nos et non sumus obliti tui nec mentiti fuimus in pacto tuo
haec omnia venerunt super nos nec obliti sumus te et inique non egimus in testamento tuo
All these things have come upon us, yet we have not forgotten thee: and we have not done wickedly in thy covenant.

non est conversum retro cor nostrum nec declinaverunt gressus nostri a semita tua
et non recessit retrorsum cor nostrum et declinasti semitas nostras a via tua
And our heart hath not turned back: neither hast thou turned aside our steps from thy way.
|
| 20 |
quoniam deiecisti nos in loco draconum et operuisti nos umbra mortis
quoniam humiliasti nos in loco adflictionis et cooperuit nos umbra mortis
For thou hast humbled us in the place of affliction: and the shadow of death hath covered us.
|
| 21 |
si obliti sumus nominis Dei nostri et expandimus manus nostras ad deum alienum
si obliti sumus nomen Dei nostri et si; expandimus manus nostras ad deum alienum
If we have forgotten the name of our God, and if we have spread forth our hands to a strange god:

numquid non Deus investigabit istud ipse enim novit cogitationes cordis quoniam propter te mortificati sumus tota die reputati sumus ut grex occisionis
nonne Deus requiret ista ipse enim novit abscondita cordis quoniam propter te mortificamur omni die aestimati sumus sicut oves occisionis
Shall not God search out these things: for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Because for thy sake we are killed all the day long: we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

consurge quare dormitas Domine evigila quare proicis nos in sempiternum
exsurge quare dormis Domine exsurge et; ne repellas in finem
Arise, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, and cast us not off to the end.

quare faciem tuam abscondis oblivisceris adflictiones et angustias nostras
quare faciem tuam avertis oblivisceris inopiae nostrae et tribulationis nostrae
Why turnest thou thy face away? and forgettest our want and our trouble?
|
| 25 |
quoniam incurvata est in pulvere anima nostra adhesit terrae venter noster
quoniam humiliata est in pulvere anima nostra conglutinatus est in terra venter noster
For our soul is humbled down to the dust: our belly cleaveth to the earth.

surge auxiliare nobis et redime nos propter misericordiam tuam
exsurge adiuva nos et redime nos propter nomen tuum
Arise, O Lord, help us and redeem us for thy name's sake.
